What's happening

Your homepage photo is a 3.8 MB JPEG. On a phone with 4G, visitors stare at a blank space while it downloads. About half of mobile visitors leave a page that takes longer than 3 seconds.

How to fix it

  1. Export the photo as WebP at 1600px wide. That brings it to about 180 KB.
  2. On that image only, add fetchpriority="high" so the browser loads it first.
  3. Run another sweep to confirm the time is under 2.5 seconds.

Before you sweep

Do I need to install anything on my website?

No. bugsweep visits your site from the outside, the way a customer does. There's nothing to install and you don't need to share any logins.

Can I sweep a site I don't own?

Free scans check one public page of any site. Full sweeps and monitoring cover up to 100 pages, so we ask you to confirm you manage the site by adding a short code to it or to its DNS settings. It takes about two minutes.

How is this different from Google's free tools?

Google's PageSpeed tool scores one page for speed. bugsweep checks every page for broken links, errors, phone layout, accessibility and SSL as well, then puts everything in one ranked list with fixes written for non-developers.

Will a sweep slow down my website?

No. We load pages one at a time with pauses in between, so your visitors won't notice.

What happens to my data?

We store your reports so you can view them later. We only look at public pages, and we never fill in forms or collect your customers' information.
